-rant ahead, I'm warning you now-

this is the second time today which I've seen some shitty filtered edited crap reach the front page.

Taking another artist's work and adding your name on it DOES NOT make you fucking Picasso. Neither does re-adjusting the hues and brightness and adding a crapload of filters. Newsflash, but a monkey can be trained to do that.

Stuff like this does not constitute as "design and interface". May I add there's no difference from the original aside from brightness and, oh look, some text in the corner. I can do that in 2 mins. Anyone can.

These are much better examples of banners and signatures:






They've got multiple images strewn into one whole picture, they have original art in there, the makers paid attention to elements of design.

If you're going to use someone else's art to make a nice pretty signature for yourself and upload it on dA:

1. Make sure there are NOTICABLE changes on there. Please, PLEASE go beyond some text and contrast adjustments.
2. Credit, credit, CREDIT the original artist. They spend hours on their work, it's only fair they get recognition. 90% of the people who fave your banner only do it for the art anyway.


This is aimed toward LJ icon artists too. I AM SICK OF YOUR SHITTY ICONS SPAMMING MY FLIST. May I add half of them are the same picture cropped at angles varying only a few degrees. And simply stating "I found the art on Pixiv" doesn't count as credit. To me that's like saying "hey look, I found this pic on the internet, I AM GIVING CREDIT HAHA."

pps: I admit I wouldn't be as angry if none of those pictures hit the front page. But still, why should they reach the front page and prevent another artist's original work from getting the recognition it deserves?</sub>
