I'm working on a large piece featuring all the prominent magician characters in Yu-gi-oh! and just finished lining all the characters today. I would really appreciate any critique on this before I start colouring! Redlines are especially preferred because it helps me understand what you're saying better.
I especially suck at drawing feet. Any comments on Silent Magician's and Gagaga Girl's feet would be really great too. Also Dark Magician looks wonky when I flip this image, but IDK how to fix it.
note: the finished picture may be turned into a print, just fyi. As a consolation, I could give you a copy if you happen to be at the con and I take your advice!
He lacks a backbone (aka butt) and spinal cord thickness. Probably that's why he looks flat chested (I mean belly) XD. Other than that, looks great. Can't wait for the colour to set in~
Boo! I didn't watch my shows today! I opted for extra sleep, but then it turned out Toonzai changed their schedule. By the way, I'll admit that it was the title that made me actually look at this (although I'll admit, Yu-Gi-Oh's not bad). I'm not actually recognizing the second or third..Gagaga and the Dark Magicians are a go.
From a glance, these look fairly good, although I do actually notice a few small (mostly structural) issues. Those two I don't recognize, for example, I'm trying to figure out what is going on with their legs. It might feel a little better coloured, but considering that one foot turned some 80 degrees, I'm not going to say that's the fix you need.
The next thing I come to is that you've a couple instances of odd hands. Your mini Dark Magician would really benefit having his staff hand redrawn so that it is not super long plus painfully broken. His knuckles are clearly where he should have fingers instead. Just as a reminder as well, our fingers should only be able to back into our palm if we're not actually holding anything. Dark Magician Girl has a super-tight grip as well along with some oddly-flat knuckles.
Just at the glance, Dark Magician—and maybe Gagaga Magician's—legs feel like they might be a bit too long, and their poses feel a little on the stale side. For the former, you might want to do a review of their legs and how or if they conform to human anatomy. For the latter...play around a bit more on the next one, I guess?
I'm willing to bet there's a 25% chance that I know my Duel Monsters worse than I think I do.
And I even missed a word or two to boot. XD It must have been because of the inner-conflict. Words like "roll" or "curl" brought the envisionment of more novice artists taking my advice the wrong way and drawing flexy, boneless fingers.
~ikeda definitely had some good info for you, what with those wonderful proportions relationships. Others I use include how, when raised, you can just about drape your arm flat horizontally over the top of your head, and when you pull your knee up to your chest it should nestle nicely beneath your shoulder (keeping in mind, of course, that the shoulders and hips move a bit as well).
ohhhhh ever since I got the magician base deck iv been wanting to do some kind of big group picture... iv just never had the proper motivation to do so x3; but the only critique i can really give is that dark magician girls left arm seems... to be on a bit of an odd angle? or at least it seems a bit like it does to me other than that they all look fantastic!
(my 2 favourite cards are Ebon Magician Curran and White Magician Pikeru )
