Man, I've read this comic a dozen times now, and only now I decide to comment on it.
Hilarious reasoning she has!

Sorry Shining, but everyone loves Twilight.

This is hysterical. lol Never thought about it like that before

This is funny...but also kinda sad, because it implies that Cadance actually loves Twilight, but that she can't marry her for some reason .

"who really chooses to marry anyone based on their potential in-laws??"

Remember "Like Water for Chocolate"? The main character, Tita, is forbidden from marriage because she's her mother's youngest daughter (thus her lifelong servant), thus Tita's boyfriend ends up marrying her older sister just so he can move in.

Besides, there's plenty of cases were people marry because they want to become the son or daughter in law of somebody, and not all of those cases are gold-diggers. And in cultures were a given gender is be strongly dominant, it isn't even that rare for somebody to pretty much arrange their own sibling with their best friend. Or considering my mother, who married my father not because she loved him, but because she saw just so much potential on him. And in the case of this image in particular, it could very well be possible that Candance had almost raised Twilight, and now wants to give birth and really raise her own Twilight.
Of course, I don't think that's how the thing would necessarily go with Cadance, but it would be a plus.

Shining: "So Candy, we been seeing each other for a while now." Looks at Cadance with a big smile.

Cadance: Busy tending to her hoof, she does not even turn around. "Uh-hu..."

Shining: "Well" Pauses for a sec and pulls out a shiny gold engagement ring. "Marry me and you will get a fantastic and totally cool husband." Hold out the ring, offering it to her.

Cadance: Does not even look at the ring as she continues her mare-icure. "That's it?"

Shining: A little surprised he stumbles finding words to say. "Umm... well... umm... you will get my parents as well. They both really like you a lot and would love having you as a daughter." He smiles big again with renewed hope.

Cadance: She pauses looking up to think for a sec, before returning to her hoof. "What else you got?"

Shining: Now worried and a bit shocked at her responses he tries to figure out what he could possibly give her to get her to say yes. "Well... umm... I guess." He scratches his head thinking as he finally comes up with something. "And you'll also get Twilight as your Sis-in-Law." His smile is weak but he does his best to present this new offer, hoping she would take it.

Cadance: She turns around suddenly dropping her hoof-file and beaming at him. "OMG! Yes! I will send out the invites right away." She starts to pace back and forth thinking, leaving Shining with his jaw hanging in the air in shock. "I will send Twi one first. Oh should I call her sis right away. Oh I can't decided."

Shining: Hangs his head as he scratches at the ground. "Umm, ok then I guess... I guess I will order my tux and... ummm... ya." he turns around with his head hanging, feeling a bit dejected until he feels a tug on his tail.

Cadance: Shining turns around to see Cadance giggle as she looks at him. "Got Ya!" Shining looks a little confused as she walks over to him. "I heard your parents talking that you were going to ask me. I could not resist." She smiles big as she wraps her hooves around Shining's neck and leans in close to him. "What girl would not want a Fantastic and Totally Cool Stud for her Husband." With that she kisses him deeply causing him to loose balance as they both fall to the ground. After a couple moments of this, Shining helps her up as he places the gold engagement ring on her horn. Cadance looks up at it admiring as she giggles to herself. "Though getting Twilly as a sister is a great bonus." She turns around and sticks her tongue out as she begins to run while Shinning chases her.

I love your art and comic, but I kinda think of them in this way. The kind that would have spend enough time with each other that they would know how to tease each other. Your comic kinda made it feel like it was a secret joke Cadance was playing on Shining. I kinda expanded on your idea of who marries someone for their potential in-laws with the offering of his parents.
